General Guidelines
The objective of this Forum is for our divers to have a safe and fun place to talk to each other about scuba diving. The short and simple rule is: speak to others as you would have others speak to you. The board is administered and moderated by volunteers; sometimes, judgement calls have to be made, but they will be made objectively.
By joining the Aquasub Scuba Chat Board, you thereby agree to conduct yourself by the following guidelines:
One account per member
Members are to register one username only. Members found to have more than one username on the board will be notified and questioned on which name they wish to keep. Members who break this rule more than once will have all the usernames in question removed from the database. A third time will result in a ban of that username, IP address and all email addresses in question.
Post in the appropriate forum
Posting in the right forum helps keep threads on track and facilitate conversations. However, attacks by members against those who misplace their threads will not be tolerated. If you feel a thread or post is misplaced, feel free to ignore it, but do not feel free to make derisive comments about the misplaced post. Moderator(s) will review posts and move any mislaid threads or posts.
In general, use descriptive subject lines. This reduces the chances of double-posting, and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Before you post, use the search function to see if your topic has been raised before to ensure you’re not duplicating posts. Also, consider what forum your topic should be posted in.
Old threads
If you wish to respond to a thread that has been inactive for some time, create a new thread and reference the old one in your opening post.
No trolling
Don't make posts that are inflammatory just to get people riled up. Substance is the key to not being labelled a troll.
No personal attacks
Ad hominem attacks are not welcome. Criticize ideas, not people. Flaming will not be tolerated. No member or Moderator is allowed to engage in public personal attacks on any other member or Moderator or other discussion boards. Personal attacks are defined as personal, racial, ethnic, and/or gender based insults, slurs, or derisive comments.
All complaints need to be communicated privately to an Administrator or Moderator using either PM and/or E-Mail, who will pass it on. In the event of this, the offending post will be edited or removed, and the offending party shall receive no more than two (2) private Moderator Team warnings via PM and/or EMail, and one final Administration warning. Note: Any personal attacks that do not stop on the second warning will be relayed to the appropriate authorities. There is to be NO criminal behaviour on this Bulletin Board. If the behaviour continues, the member/Moderator will be banned for a week, and upon a repeat incident, banned permanently. This will apply to all other community members as well.
Keep content clean
No pornographic, sexually offensive, sexually explicit, or objectifying material or language. Simple rule: Moderator's judgment applies here. Sexually suggestive images will be heavily scrutinized. We'd like for our readers to be able to read the support forum at work and share with friends and even children.
Privacy
Respect each others’ privacy: do not post other's phone numbers, addresses, pictures, etc. without their permission.
Advertising
Blatant advertising of competing dive shops, chat boards, etc. will not be permitted.
No foul language
Restrict the use of excessive foul language: you know the ones...the ones you wouldn’t use around your own child or your priest, for instance. Swearing will heavily scrutinized on this board. Let’s keep it clean…if only to prevent us from nearing the edge of that slippery slope where, before we know it, the board is a cesspool of *&@$%#. You can express your opinion, but there are ways to do so without swearing. Any posts that contain language that the Moderator(s) judge to be inappropriate will be edited.
Signatures
Signatures may contain a link to your personal site. However, advertising of competing dive shops is not permitted. Signatures are expected to follow the same guidelines as posts, meaning: no flaming, no swearing, no personal attacks, and no adult material. If you are seen violating these guidelines you will be asked once privately to change your signature. If you fail to comply, we will change it for you.
