Reply with quote | #1 | Hi.
I've heard mixed reviews about the GBR during storm season.
Everything from it's not worth the trip due to visibility, concentrations of jellyfish and sea snakes to everything being cool on the reef, just warnings against using the beach.
Anyone been there/done that?
All help appreciated.
Hang Loose,

Reply with quote | #2 | The GBR in mid to late summer enjoys unsettled weather. Visability can be variable and surface conditions -- even inside the reef -- are often marginal. Some operators are hesitant to venture out to the more remote spots (read better reefs, more fish, bigger critters) if there is even a suspicion of a storm... wise choice actually. Riding out a tropical thunderstorms on a small boat is like being caught on an USMC artillery range wearing nothing but a pair of shorts and a Che Gueverra T-shirt. However, the diving there is better than it is here right now. Also, if you are going to be near Sydney, take the time to get in a wreck dive or two right there... lots of people overlook this option. good luck __________________ This space for rent or hire... I did two introductory dives on the Silverswift in Cains, Australia on March 12th. The weather was fantastic for us but was poor the previous few weeks. I am now hooked and looking into getting certified. |
